Kahili Adventist Preschool
A Christian-based program which gives children ages 2 years 8 months – 7 years the early enrichment they need for a successful school career.
Our Mission
To provide an environment where children belong, create, learn, and become friends with Jesus.

The mission of Kahili Adventist Preschool is to provide a safe environment where children belong, are able to create through hands-on experiences, develop joy in learning, and become friends with Jesus. We believe preschoolers learn best in a small, home-like atmosphere setting where they can run around and explore God’s creation.

Goals

What we aim for

Kahili Adventist Preschool promotes an environment that focuses on the development of the whole child by:

  • Creating an awareness and love of God and respect for creation
  • Creating an awareness of individuality and personal self-identity, encouraging positive self esteem
  • Encouraging an enthusiasm for exploration, learning and creativity
  • Encouraging self-control and self-discipline
  • Providing freedom of choice and decision-making within reasonable limits and encourage problem solving
  • Providing developmentally-appropriate activities that will introduce children to language, literacy, math, science, large and small motor skills, and to the culture and community in the world they live in locally and globally
  • Encouraging good health habits and manners
The Teacher

Meet Melba

Aloha!  My name is Melba Gapuz. I was born in the Philippines and moved to Hawaii at the age of fifteen.  I attended Kauai Community College (KCC), where I earned my Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. I have been the founding Director of the Kahili Adventist Preschool since 2011.

Working with preschoolers calls for a tremendous amount of patience and hard work. When I see their innocent faces light up and eager to learn, it is worth all the extra time I spend in the classroom. One of the many things that I enjoy as a teacher is setting up the classroom with different themes and providing hands-on lessons for them to explore. As a teacher, I have the great privilege and responsibility to impact my students’ lives positively, giving them reasons to push forward and motivating them to succeed in life.

As I plan my daily activities, I make sure to incorporate and focus on five major areas of development: spiritual, physical, social and emotional, cognitive, and language. These areas of development will equip my students as they move on to Kindergarten. Also, at the end of each school year, I know that I have given my all and that hopefully I have made a difference in their early lives.  It is a privilege to inspire young children to become everything God has designed them to be!

If you don’t see me working in my classroom on the weekend or holidays, you will find me with friends hiking, running, camping, fishing or volunteering at my local church.
